
Kordupel Leads Penguins to Fifth-Place Finish at Bucknell Invitational

Fifth-year senior Bryan Kordupel placed fifth individually to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a fifth-place finish in the Bucknell Invitational on Tuesday at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Penguins finished the tournament with a season-low three-round team score of 874 to finish tied for fifth with Towson. After posting a 302 in the opening round on Sunday, YSU bounced back with a solid 287 (+7) in the second round on Monday to move from 15th to ninth on the leaderboard. The Guins matched their season-low team round of 285 in the final round on Tuesday to move up four more spots on the leaderboard. YSU's fifth-place finish represents its highest team placing of the fall season.
Kordupel finished in fifth place at two over par and matched his career-best three-round score of 212 (71-71-70). The Boardman, Ohio, native earned his second consecutive top-five finish after finishing tied for fifth at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Oct. 4. He has now been YSU's top finisher in each of the team's first four events this fall.
Kordupel's one-over-par 71 in the first round on Sunday featured 11 pars and three birdies as he fired an even-par 34 on the back nine. The senior made par or better on 10 of his final 12 holes during the opening round. Kordupel's second-round 71 included nine pars and four birdies as he carded an even-par 34 on the back nine. In the final session on Tuesday, he recorded six pars and six birdies while shooting a one-under-par 35 on the front nine as part of an even par round of 70.
True freshman Ryan Sam finished tied for 31st with a career-best three-round score of 220 (78-70-72). Sam's first-round 78 featured 10 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 14. In the second round on Monday, the freshman fired a career-low, even-par 70 that included 10 pars and four birdies. The Canfield, Ohio, native carded a one-under-par 33 on the back nine while making par or better on 11 of his first 12 holes during the second session. Sam's final-round 72 featured 10 pars and three birdies as he recorded an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Cade Kreps finished tied for 36th and matched his career-best three-round score of 221 (76-74-71). The senior's opening-round 76 included 10 pars and a pair of birdies while his second-round 74 also featured 10 pars and two birdies. In the final round on Tuesday, Kreps matched his career-low round with a one-over-par 71 that included 11 pars and three birdies. The Boardman, Ohio, native recorded an even-par 36 on the front nine while making par or better on 13 of his first 15 holes during the final session.
Cole Christman finished tied for 41st with a three-round total of 223 (77-72-74). The senior's first-round 77 featured 10 pars and a pair of birdies while his second-round 72 included 11 pars and three birdies. The Boardman, Ohio, native fired a one-under-par 33 on the back nine during the second session on Monday. Christman's final-round 74 on Tuesday saw him card 13 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 15.
Dean Austalosh finished tied for 57th with a three-round 226 (79-75-72). The junior's opening-round 79 featured 10 pars while his second-round 75 included nine pars and two birdies. Austalosh's two-over-par 72 in the final round featured 11 pars and three birdies as he made par or better on nine of his final 11 holes.
Playing as an individual, Conner Stevens concluded the tournament with a three-round score of 235 (85-78-72). The sophomore's first-round 85 included six pars and a pair of birdies while his second-round 78 featured 11 pars. In the final round on Tuesday, Stevens shot a two-over-par 72 that saw him card 13 pars and two birdies. The Brookfield, Ohio, native notched a one-under-par 35 on the front nine during the final session.
Rider won the tournament title with a three-round team total of 858. Robert Morris finished second with an 866, Holy Cross placed third with an 871 and Mount St. Mary's came in fourth with an 873. YSU finished four strokes in front of seventh-place Cornell. Josh Nagy of Robert Morris earned medalist honors by two strokes at two under par with a three-round score of 208 (71-71-66).
Youngstown State will conclude its fall season on Oct. 24-25 with the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate hosted by Stetson at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
