Three Penguins Honored by GCAA as 2025-26 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Three Youngstown State men's golf student-athletes have been honored as 2025-26 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the organization announced on Monday.
The trio of Penguins honored includes Jordan Kish, Michael Porter and Ryan Sam. Porter and Sam each received the distinction for the second straight season while Kish was honored for the first time in his career. Sam was also named to All-Horizon League Second Team, the Horizon League All-Academic Team and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team as a senior in 2025-26.
Sam, YSU's lone senior and team captain in 2025-26, participated in all 12 tournaments and 36 rounds in 2025-26. He averaged a team and career best 73.2 strokes per round with a low round of 67 while earning two top 10 finishes and seven top 25 performances this past season. Sam was also named the Under Armour Horizon League Men's Golfer of the Week on March 12, 2026. He maintained a 3.70 GPA as a finance major at Youngstown State, graduating with his bachelor's degree in May 2026.
Porter participated in all 12 tournaments and 36 rounds for the Penguins as a redshirt junior in 2025-26. The McDonald, Ohio, native averaged a career-best 73.4 strokes per round with a low round of 67 while earning three top 10 finishes and six top 25 performances this past season. He maintains a 3.33 GPA as an accounting major at YSU.
Kish also participated in all 12 tournaments and 36 rounds for YSU as a sophomore in 2025-26. The Massillon, Ohio, native joined Sam and Porter in setting a new single-season school record with 36 rounds played. Kish averaged a career-best 73.9 strokes per round while firing a low round of 69 on three occasions. He earned one top 10 finish, three top 25 finishes and six top 30 performances during his second collegiate campaign. Kish maintains a 3.20 GPA as an information technology major at Youngstown State.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
A total of 649 NCAA Division I athletes from 210 schools earned 2025-26 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
