The Youngstown State women's and men's swimming and diving team put up a strong performance but came up short against No. 3 (women) and No. 2 (men) ranked Denison.
The women's team fell to Denison 185-104, while the men were defeated 180-113.
Event winners for the men were Soma Albert (100 and 200 back) and Aleksa Radenovic (100 and 200 fly).
Both the men's and women's team placed second in the 200 medley relay. The men swam a time of 1:34.51 in the event.
Albert won the 100 back with a time of 52.63 and swam a 1:52.84 to earn a victory in the 200 back. Radenovic swam a 49.22 in the 100 fly and a 1:51.98 in the 200 fly to pick up his two victories.
Gavin Webb placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:48.44. Karan Raju swam a 1:55.04 in the 200 fly to earn second place. Cody Thill was second in the 3m dive with a score of 254.70.
Wilson Cannon placed third in the 100 fly with a time of 50.73. Jasper Liekens swam a 1:00.66 in the 100 breaststroke to earn third place, and Rares Druga was third in the 50 free with a time of 21.41.
For the women, Tess Weiskopf won both the 1m and 3m dive with a score of 262.50 and
253.43, respectively. The women swept the 1m dive with Kayla Wrasman placing second with a score of 246.68, and Dasha Toth earning third with a score of 222.68. Wrasman also placed second in the 3m dive, scoring 245.40.
Aubrey Whitaker placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.67, and Isabelle Hanson swam a 1:00.19 to earn second in the 100 back.
Olivia Wilcox swam a 2:09.89 in the 200 back to place third, and Macy Wang was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.81. Wang also swam a 2.14.60 in the 200 IM. Josie Preski earned third in the 500 free, swimming a 5:22.55. Catherine Imo was third in the 50 free with a time of 25.38.
The women swam a 3:47.19 in the 400 free relay, and the men swam a 3:10.11.
The Penguins are next in action Sunday as they travel to the Butler Invitational to compete against Butler, St. Louis, Xavier, Hillsdale, Ball State, Illinois State, Indiana State, and Bellarmine in Fishers, Ind. The meet is set to start at 12 pm.
