Seagroves Reaches 20 Digs Again in 3-0 Loss to Valparaiso

Junior libero Reilly Seagroves recorded 21 digs for her fourth straight match with at least 20 as the Youngstown State volleyball team lost 3-0 to Valparaiso in the Blue & Gold Tournament on Thursday. The set scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-18, as the Penguins opened play at Toledo's tournament at Savage Arena.
Seagroves had 10 digs in the opening set, and she helped the Penguins dig 63 balls in the match. Valparaiso countered with 76 digs, including 30 from Rylee Cookerly, as it limited Youngstown State to 34 kills.
Amanda Lebioda led YSU offensively with 12 kills, and Paula Gursching notched her third double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Lebioda had 10 of her kills in 24 attempts over the final two sets. Lexie Beeke had 18 assists, and Josi Borum added 10.
Gretchen Kuckkan had 12 kills for the Beacons, who held a 42-34 edge in kills and hit .256. Valpo limited its mistakes by committing just 10 attack errors in 125 attempts, and the Beacons did not have a serving error in 74 chances.
Youngstown State will play twice at the Blue & Gold Tournament on Saturday. The Penguins will take on South Dakota State at 10 a.m., and they'll be back in action against the host Rockets at 7 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN3.
