
Penguins Wrap Up Play at NCAA Columbus Regional

The Youngstown State women's golf team recorded a three-round total of 959 to finish 17th on Wednesday at the NCAA Regionals at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The Penguins posted a final-round 319 on Wednesday to finish 16 strokes ahead of Evansville. YSU finished with rounds of 322, 318 and 319 during the three-day event. The Guins earned their best finish at the NCAA Regionals in program history after finishing 18th at the NCAA South Bend Regional in 2015.
Senior Katlyn Shutt finished her historic career at YSU with a final-round 77 that featured 12 pars and a birdie on the par-5 No. 6. After a tough start to the round, she settled in to make par or better on 13 of her final 14 holes. Shutt also made par or better on each of her last eight holes. The Dover, Ohio, native fired an even-par 36 on the front nine after shooting a five-over-par 41 on the back nine. Shutt finished the event with a three-round total of 229 (74-78-77) to tie for 45th. The performance marks the highest finish for a Penguin at the NCAA Regionals in program history.
Danae Rugola also fired a final-round 77 on Wednesday to finish tied for 81st with a three-round score of 237 (81-79-77). The sophomore's final round featured 10 pars and two birdies. She carded an even-par 36 on the back nine with birdies on the par-3 No. 13 and the par-3 No. 17. Rugola then shot a five-over-par 41 on the front nine. The Uniontown, Pa., native made par or better on 10 of her first 13 holes.
Puthita Khuanrudee carded a final-round 79 on Wednesday to finish 85th with a three-round total of 240 (81-80-79). The junior's final round included six pars and three birdies. She birdied the par-3 No. 13 while shooting a six-over-par 42 on the back nine. Khuanrudee bounced back to fire a one-over-par 37 on the front nine with birdies on the par-5 No. 4 and the par-5 No. 6. She finished her round strong by making par or better on eight her final 12 holes.
Tori Utrup, who was substituted for Jenna Vivo in the final round, carded a third-round 86 that featured five pars. After posting an eight-over-par 44 on the back nine, she shot a six-over-par 42 on the front nine. The Uniontown, Ohio, native finished strong by making par on three of her final five holes.
Christina Lewis recorded a final-round 87 on Wednesday to finish 93rd with a three-round score of 254 (86-81-87). The sophomore's final round included six pars. After starting the round with back-to-back double bogeys, she made par on six of her next nine holes. The Wexford, Pa., native shot a six-over-par 42 on the back nine before posting a nine-over-par 45 on the front nine.
Georgia recorded a three-round team total of 865 to finish 15 strokes ahead of Duke in first place. Arizona State tied for second place with Duke while Kentucky finished fourth with an 883. Michigan and Kent State each finished with an 885 to tie for fifth place.
On the individual leaderboard, Georgia's Jenny Bae finished in first place with a three-round 212 (71-68-73). Arizona State's Linn Grant, Kent State's Caley McGinty and Michigan's Monet Chun each finished with a 215 to tie for second place. The top six teams and three individuals advance to the NCAA Championships on May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
