Women's Swimming & Diving Season in Review

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team showed improvement throughout the year under second-year Head Coach Brad Smith. YSU had four top-five swimming finishes at the Horizon League Championships, the most in a season since 2016.

Women's Season in Review

YSU had 11 top-10 all-time performances at the Horizon League Championships.
Jael Dankle had a third-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle and a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at the HL meet. Dankle's finish in the 1,650 free was the best for a YSU swimmer since Olvia Arnold (second) in 2009. In the 500, it was just the fourth top-five finish by a Penguin swimmer in the event.
Ella Kerr had a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at the HL Championships. Kerr joins Samantha Roberts as the only two swimmers in program history to have multiple top-five finishes in the breaststroke events at the league meet.
Kerr set school records in the 100 breast and the 200 breast. The record in the 100 breast had stood since 2016 while the mark in the 200 breast had stood since 2013.
Aida Jurinovics (400 IM), Tess Weiskopf (one-meter and three-meter dive) and Jamie Leming (200 back) also advanced to the main finals at the HL meet.
Also in the 1,650 free, Josie Preski placed 10th with a time of 17:51.51 and Jurinovics was 12th clocking a 17:52.85.
In the 200 breast, Mallory Pitstick placed 10th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.57 while Britney Sage was 15th clocking a 2:25.06.
Aubrey Whitaker turned in a time of 52.57 seconds to finish 11th in the 100-yard freesyle. Jurinovics added a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.88.
The Guins earned a dual victory over Gannon in January.
The Penguins registered 17 top 10 school marks during the season. YSU had eight top-five school-best performances for the campaign.
