Penguins Drop Second Straight To Cleveland State

Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team suffered its second straight 6-1 setback to Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
Will Everett picked up a win at No. 6 for the second straight day to lead the Penguins. Two of the six singles contests on Sunday went three sets, both of which were won by the Vikings.
The Vikings picked up the doubles point with 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1, Vasilis Vardakis and Erik Gran led 4-3 when the point was clinched.
Everett's win at No. 6 was the first concluded singles contest. He beat Austin Staiger by a score of 6-2, 6-0. The Vikings clamed the next two wins in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 1. At No. 2, Laurentiu Mandocescu battled against Luke Phillips before falling in three sets - 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. At No. 5, David Alvarez Moreno also dropped a tough three-set contest. Moreno lost a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 decision to JuandeDios Abboud.
The final match to conclude was a slugfest between Gran and Clark Bilinovich at No. 4 singles. Bilinovich won the first set 7-6 before Gran battled back to win the second 7-6, including a 14-12 score to win the tiebreaker. However, Bilinovich won the super tiebreaker by a score of 10-6.
With the victory, Cleveland State improves to 12-4 and 4-0 in the Horizon League while YSU falls to 11-7 and 4-2.
YSU returns to action on April 24-25 when it visits Northern Kentucky for a pair of matches.
