Everett Picks Up Win As Penguins Fall at CSU

Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
The loss snapped YSU's six match winning streak as the Penguins are now 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the Horizon League. Cleveland State improves to 11-4 and 3-0.
YSU dropped a tough doubles point and four of the six singles matches were decided in three sets.
In doubles play, CSU won at No. 3 while Joao Garretto and David Alvarez Moreno picked up a 7-5 win at No. 2. In a back-and-forth contest at No. 1 doubles, Vasilis Vardakis and Erik Gran came up just short, 7-5 (5) to give the Vikings the point.
In singles play, Cleveland State won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. At No. 6, Will Everett picked up a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) victory over Juande Dios Abboud for the lone YSU victory. At No. 2, Laurentiu Mandocescu dropped a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 contest to Matthew Terry. At No. 3, Joao Garretto suffered a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 defeat to Luke Phillips. At No. 4, Erik Gran lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to Maxime Mareschal-Hay.
The Penguins and Vikings conclude their weekend series with a match tomorrow. First serve at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion is set for 2 p.m.
