Shutt Places Ninth to Pace Penguins at Low Country Intercollegiate

Senior Katlyn Shutt tied for ninth place to pace the Youngstown State women's golf team at the Low Country Intercollegiate, which concluded on Sunday at Bear Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
Shutt finished with a two-round score of 147 (74-73) to earn her second top-10 finish of the season. The senior's two-over-par 74 in the first round on Saturday featured 13 pars and birdies on No. 1 and No. 6. After going two over par on the front nine, Shutt finished strong with an even-par 36 on the back nine. She made par on each of her final 11 holes in the first session. Shutt's second-round 73, which marks her low round of the season, included 15 pars and a birdie on No. 6. She made par or better on each of her final 15 holes in Sunday's second round.
As a team, the Penguins finished 10th with a two-round team total of 622. YSU posted a 317 in the first round on Saturday before bouncing back with a season-low 305 in Sunday's final session.
Puthita Khuanrudee tied for 18th with a two-round score of 150 (78-72). The junior's even-par 72 in the second round, which marks her low round of the season, featured four birdies and 10 pars. After shooting two over par over her first nine holes, Khuanrudee went two under over her final nine. She made par or better on nine of her final 10 holes, and she collected three consecutive birdies from No. 6 to No. 8.
Christina Lewis recorded a two-round total of 161 (82-79) while Victoria Gräns carded a 168 (83-85). Lewis' second-round 79 featured 11 pars and birdie on No. 11. Gräns' first-round 83 included 11 pars and birdie on No. 17. Playing in her second collegiate event, Madie Smithco finished with a 169 (88-81). The freshman recorded nine pars and a birdie on No. 12 during Sunday's final session.
Florida Atlantic took home the tournament title with a two-round team total of 578 (+2). The Owls notched rounds of 291 and 287 to finish eight strokes ahead of runner-up USC Upstate.
Justine Fournand of Florida Atlantic finished eight under par with a two-round 136 (69-67) to claim medalist honors by six strokes. Tara Bettle of UNC Greensboro finished as the runner-up with a 142 (73-69).
Youngstown State will continue its spring season March 22-23 with the Nevel Meade Collegiate hosted by Cleveland State at Nevel Meade Golf Course in Prospect, Ky.
