Vardakis, Moreno Earn Wins Against Marquette

Dayton, Ohio - Vasilis Vardakis and David Alvarez Moreno picked up singles wins as the Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Marquette on Saturday afternoon at the South Regency Tennis Center.
The Penguins again battled taking three singles matches to three sets and two doubles contest to tiebreakers.
In doubles play, Erik Gran and Laurentiu Mandocescu picked up a 7-6 win at No. 3. At No. 2, the Golden Eagles clinched the point with a 7-6 win.
In singles, Vardakis dropped his first set, 6-4, before taking the next two 6-4, 7-6 against Luis Heredia Gomez. At No. 3, Gran won the first set against Stefan Dragocic, 7-5, but dropped the next two 6-2, 6-2. At No. 4, Will Everett won his first set 6-1 vs. Nikola Kijac, but lost the next two 6-4, 6-3.
At No. 5 singles, Moreno picked up a straight-set 7-6, 6-1 win over Rami Scheetz.
The Penguins are next in action on Friday when they play host to Toledo at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
