Guins Earn First Win of Season in Home Debut

The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Toledo on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins picked up their first win of the season claiming the doubles point and winning five of six singles contests.
In doubles play, YSU earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the point. At No. 2, Joao Garretto and David Alvarez Moreno picked up a 6-4 win over Adam Kovac and Filip Zupancic. At No. 3, Erik Gran and Laurentiu Mandocescu beat Max Skaer and Luis Kleinschnitz, 6-4.
In singles, YSU earned victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
At No. 1, Vasilis Vardakis won 6-2, 6-3 over Cole Shoults. At No. 2, Mandocescu won 3-6, 7-5, 2-2 (retirement) when Thawin Suksathaporn abandoned the match with cramps. At No. 4, Will Everett beat Adam Kovac, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. At No. 5, Garretto picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Filip Zupancic.
In the final match of the evening, Moreno won 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (13-11) against Luis Kleinschnitz.
The Penguins (1-4) return to action on Sunday when they play host to Xavier. First serve is set for noon.
