The Youngstown State men's swimming and diving team had a very strong performance as they defeated Niagara on Saturday at the Beeghly Natatorium. The women also had a solid performance but came up short against both Niagara and Saint Francis.
The men beat Niagara by a score of 195-95. The women lost to Niagara and Saint Francis by a score of 204-96 and 171-123, respectively.
The diving dominance continues for the Penguins with Cody Thill winning both the one-meter and three-meter dive. He scored 248.70 in the 1m and 265.20 in the 3m in his victories. For the women, Kayla Wrasman won the one-meter dive with a score of 265.73, and Tess Weiskopf came on top in the three-meter dive, scoring 250.80.
Winners for the men were Gavin Redden (50 and 100 free), Gavin Webb (1000 free and 500 free), Dominic Bono (200 back and 400 IM), Karen Raju (200 free), David Nacarino Campos (100 breaststroke), Aleksa Radenovic (200 fly), and Wilson Cannon (100 fly).
Bono won the 200 back with a time of 1:55.09 and swam a 4:08.50 to finish first in the 400 IM. He also placed second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:00.50. Webb swam a 9:46.01 in the 1000 free and a 4:43.76 in the 500 free in his victories and swam a 4:12.60 in the 400 IM for second. Redden took first place in the 50 free with a time of 21.21 and in the 100 free with a time of 47.18.
Raju swam a 1:44.47 in the 200 free in his victory, and Campos earned his win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.00. Radenovic finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.43. Cannon swam a 50.33 in his victory in the 100 fly and finished second in the 50 free with a time of 21.33.
Darren Laing swam a 1:46.83 in the 200 free and 47.40 in the 100 free for second. Jasper Liekens earned second in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 1:00.27. Zachary Chesman placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.36, and Terin Frodyma finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.28. Chris Barton swam a 4:51.85 in the 500 free for second.
The men also won both relays of the meet with a time of 1:32.96 in the 200 medley relay and a time of 3:09.08 in the 400 free relay.
For the women, Aubrey Whitaker swam a 1:57.23 in the 200 free for a second-place finish. Hailey Clark placed third in both the 1000 free and 500 free with a time of 10:39.16 and 5:20.08, respectively.
YSU will see a break from action and return at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational starting on December 2 at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
