Volleyball Falls to Milwaukee on Senior Day

The Youngstown State volleyball team saw its 2021 season come to a close on Saturday with a three-set loss to Milwaukee at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 25-17, 25-11, 25-15.
The Penguins celebrated the careers of seniors Morgan Cleevely and Ashley Starzyk after the match as both finished up four-year tenures with the program.
Youngstown State finished the season 6-23 overall and 3-15 in Horizon League play. Milwaukee improved to 22-8 and clinched the conference regular-season title with a 16-2 mark in league play. The Panthers will be the top seed in next week's Horizon League Volleyball Championship.
Paula Gursching had a team-high eight kills to increase her season total to 430, which is the third-highest total in program history and the most since 1998. Amanda Lebioda had seven kills and hit .227, and Caitlyn Jones finished with 10 digs. Cleevely closed out her career with six digs and an ace.
Milwaukee got 10 kills apiece from Carmen Heilemann and Kleja Cerniauskaite, and the Panthers also benefitted from a big advantage at the service line. Milwaukee had seven aces compared to YSU's two, and the Penguins had 11 serving errors while the Panthers had seven.
