Five Place in Top 25 as Penguins Finish Third at Towson Fall Invitational

Five Penguins placed in the top 25 of the individual standings as the Youngstown State men's golf team finished tied for third on Sunday in the Towson Fall Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md.
YSU finished with a three-round team total of 873 to tie for third with Robert Morris. The Penguins posted team scores of 296 and 287 in the first two rounds on Saturday before concluding the event with a 290 in the final session on Sunday. Towson claimed the tournament title with a three-round 868, finishing one stroke ahead of runner-up Howard. Youngstown State finished 19 strokes head of fifth-place Binghamton. The Guins, who earned their fourh top-five finish of the season, have now placed third or better in three straight events.
Ken Keller (74-71-72) and Kevin Scherr (73-72-72) each carded a three-round score of 217 to tie for sixth place. Keller's first-round 74 featured eight pars and four birdies as he made par or better on 11 of his first 14 holes. The senior fired a two-under-par 34 on the front nine during the opening round. Keller's bogey-free, one-under-par 71 in the second round featured 17 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 5. The Youngstown, Ohio, native's final-round 72 included 10 pars and five birdies as he made par or better on seven of his final eight holes. Keller earned his first top-10 finish of the season.
Scherr's opening-round 73 featured 15 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 5 as he made par or better on each of his first 12 holes. The Nazareth, Pa., native fired a one-under-par 35 on the front nine during the first round. The senior's even-par 72 in the second session included 14 pars and two birdies as he made par or better on 15 of his first 16 holes. Scherr's final-round 72 featured 11 pars and four birdies as he shot a one-under-par 35 on the front nine. The senior earned his third top-10 finish of the season.
Cole Christman tied for 11th with a three-round 219 (74-73-72). The junior's first-round 74 included 12 pars and a pair of birdies as he made par or better on 10 of his first 11 holes. The Boardman, Ohio, native carded a one-under-par 35 on the front nine during the opening round. Christman's second-round 73 featured 15 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 12 as he made par or better on each of his first 14 holes. The junior posted a bogey-free, even-par 36 on the front nine in the second session. Christman's final-round 72 included 10 pars and four birdies as he made par or better on eight of his final nine holes. The junior has now earned five top-20 finishes in six events this season.
Bryan Kordupel finished the tournament with a three-round 220 (75-71-74) to tie for 13th. The senior's first-round 75 featured 12 pars and two birdies as he made par or better on nine of his first 10 holes. Kordupel's one-under-par 71 in the second round included 13 pars and three birdies as he made par or better on 13 of his first 14 holes. The Boardman, Ohio, native's final-round 74 featured eight pars and four birdies as he fired an even-par 36 on the back nine. Kordupel has now earned four top-20 finishes in six events this season.
Playing as an individual, Cade Kreps tied for 24th with a career-best three-round score of 226 (75-78-73). The junior's opening-round 75 included 10 pars and three birdies as he made par or better on 11 of his final 12 holes. Kreps' second-round 78 featured nine pars and three birdies as he made par or better on 11 of his final 13 holes. The Boardman, Ohio, native carded an even-par 36 on the front nine during the second session. The junior's final-round 73, which marks the lowest round of his career, included 12 pars and three birdies as he made par or better on 11 of his final 12 holes.
In his season debut, Brian Terlesky finished 43rd with a three-round total of 237 (82-78-77). The junior's first-round 82 featured nine pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 13 as he made par or better on six of his final seven holes. The Boardman, Ohio, native's second-round 78 included nine pars and two birdies. Terlesky's final-round 77, which marks his low round of the season, featured nine pars and three birdies as he recorded a two-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Howard's Everett Whiten Jr. earned medalist honors at 10 under par with a three-round 206 (65-74-67). Josh Nagy of Robert Morris finished as the runner up with a three-round 209 (65-71-73).
