Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's swimming and diving team used an impressive overall effort to beat Cleveland State 167-121 on Friday at the Busbey Natatorium.
Olivia Wilcox and Mallory Pitstick each won a pair of events for the Penguins while Hailey Clark picked up her first career event victory. YSU swept the diving events at Tess Weiskopf won the three-meter event while Kayla Wrasman won the one-meter dive.
For the men, Aleska Radenovic won the 100 butterfly and the 200 fly while Gavin Redden won the 50 free with a time of 21.36 seconds. The Vikings beat the Penguins by a score of 210-88.
Weiskopf posted a 218.78 in the three-meter dive while Wrasmann was second with a 213.90. Wrasman won the one-meter event with a score of 250.05 while Weiskopf was second at 236.18.
The swimmers started the event on a strong note winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.96.
Clark had a strong performance in the first individual event winning the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.32. She won the event by more than five seconds. Kyndall Hindman was third with a time of 11:05.91 while Josie Preski was fourth with a 11:14.97.
In the 200 free, YSU was second and third. Aubrey Whitaker was second with a time of 1:56.96 while Clark finished third posting a time of 2:01.27.
Wilcox clocked an impressive time of 58.79 seconds to win the 100 backstroke. She swam a time of 58.36 second to take first in the 100 butterfly.
Pitstick posted a winning time of 1:08.41 in the 100-yard breaststroke and had first-place time of 2:28.02 in the 200 event.
Saige Kemeny was third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.29 and second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:28.15. In the 200 fly, Natalia Andres was third clocking a 2:13.30. Hannah Olger had a second-place time of 24.94 seconds in the 50 free. Whitaker was second in the 100 free with a time of 53.92 seconds and Olger took third at 55.49 seconds. Averi McCarthy was second in the 200 back at 2:14.92.
Clark was also second in the 500 free with a time of 5:12.96.
The women closed out the night with a winning performance in the 200 free relay posting a time of 1:39.70.
Top finishes for the men included a second-place in the 1,000 free by Gavin Webb with a time of 9:35.41. Wilson Cannon was second in the 100-yard free with a time of 46.62 seconds. Fabian Gaines was second in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.33.
The Penguins are in action on Saturday when they play host to Gannon. The meet is set to start at Noon at the Beeghly Natatorium.
