Freshman Mallory Pitstick (Fashion Merchandising/Ottawa, Ill.) gives YSUsports.com an update in this Q&A session.
What is your current location?
Ottawa, Illinois.
How are you keeping your mind on swimming?
I'm keeping my mind on swimming by doing keeping in touch with my team and thinking about my goals for this upcoming season!
What are you doing to stay in shape (working out, running)?
Doing at home workouts with my mom!
How have you looked at things differently in the past few weeks?
These past few weeks I've been so thankful to have time to see my family, but I've also realized how much I took the structure of regular classes and seeing my team every day for granted.
What is the toughest thing about not physically going to class?
The toughest thing about not physically going to class is going to be finishing up group projects and not being able to have my classmates and professors to help me in person.
How has dealing with the current circumstances brought your team together?
The team has been brought together through these circumstances by leaning on each other when we're missing one another and helping each other with the confusion of online classes.
What makes you most excited for next year?
We have a huge incoming freshmen class which I think is going to add a lot of depth to the team and make us more competitive all around.
What do you enjoy the most about being at YSU?
My favorite part of being at YSU is how close everyone is to each other, as well as the support shown for athletics.
What do you want or need to improve upon the most?
I think that I need to work on keeping myself positive in mentally tough training sessions.
How often do you FaceTime your teammates? What do you guys talk about?
Pretty much every other hour I'm on facetime with at least one of my teammates talking about the most random and irrelevant (but entertaining) things.
Have you learned anything about yourself during this?
I've learned that I'm very comfortable with self-isolating and that time by myself is something I happen to enjoy more than most people.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of your sport?
Outside of my sport I enjoy sewing & organizing!
If you weren't a swimmer or diver, what sport would you like to do?
If I wasn't a swimmer I would definitely want to play basketball.
