2019-20 Men's Swimming & Diving Season In Review

The Youngstown State men's swimming and diving program completed its first season in the Horizon League and first year at Division I in program history in 2019-20.
Season Highlights
- YSU set four individual school records (200 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke) and four relay records during its first season of competition since the mid-1980s.
- Wilson Cannon lowered his school mark to 50.08 seconds in the 100 butterfly at the Horizon League Championships. His previous-best time was 51.07 seconds.
- Brandon Cheong advanced to the B Final in the 100-yard breaststroke becoming the first men's swimmer in school history to reach a final event. He posted a time of 59.05 in the prelims to move into the final. In the finals, Cheong placed 16th with a school-record time of 58.75 seconds.
- Ryan Scherer finished with a school-best time of 1:56.27 in the 200 IM HL Championships preliminary round. Scherer shaved an impressive nine seconds off his previous season-best time in the event to ecplise the school-record time of 1:56.93 set by Tom Bosse back in 1977.
- In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Penguins set a school record with a time of 3:07.29 at the HL Championships.
- In the 200-yard freestyle relay, YSU had a school-record time of 1:24.49 at the HL Championships.
- At the Butler Invitational, in the 100-yard breaststroke Brandon Cheong placed fifth with a time of 1:01.09 while Zach Tomasic was right behind in sixth clocking a mark of 1:01.23. In the 100-yard freestyle, Wilson Cannon placed sixth with a time of 43.18 seconds. Tomasic picked up another strong finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.95 to place seventh. Cannon earned an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.01 seconds.
- At the Magnus Cup Invitational, Brandon Cheong set a school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.08 seconds and in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.20 while Wilson Cannon established a new top time in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.07 seconds in the prelims.
- YSU was named a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American team during the fall semester.
