Junior Casey Prentice (Exercise Science/Arnold, Md.) gives YSUsports.com an update in this Q&A session.
What is your current location?
Arnold, Md.
How are you keeping your mind on swimming?
The team is still in close contact daily
What are you doing to stay in shape (working out, running)?
Working out with my sister who is a field hockey player. Lots of running and cardio work.
How have you looked at things differently in the past two weeks?
Things happen in the blink of an eye, literally. I've learned that never take your health and wellbeing for granted because something like this can affect everyone's health and wellbeing at a rapid pace.
What is going to be the toughest thing about not physically going to class?
Figuring out how the online classes work will be the toughest part, but I predict after a few class sessions things will become routine.
How has dealing with the current circumstances brought your team together?
We are still in daily contact and we are all concerned with each other's health and well being.
What makes you most excited for next year?
I will be a senior next year and I am ready to work hard so I can end with a strong season.
What do you enjoy the most about being at YSU?
Lots of people with different backgrounds. I see/meet someone new every day on campus.
What are do you need to improve upon the most?
I need to improve on stress management. I worry about too many things at once rather than just prioritizing and scheduling.
How often do you FaceTime your teammates? What do you guys talk about?
We are in contact on GroupMe frequently, we joke around, send motivation and more.
Have you learned anything about yourself during this?
I have learned that being adaptable is an important quality, especially in times like this where adaptability is absolutely necessary. For me, I find myself to be quite adaptable but there is always room for improvement.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of your sport?
I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, kayaking and anything outside.
If you weren't a swimmer or diver, what sport would you like to do?
Horseback riding for sure. I grew up a competitive rider and I miss it a lot
Who on your team has organized any kind of group chats?
Many of the upper classmen and coaches have formed group messages
Who is the toughest person on the team?
Elizabeth Wompey. She was involved in a serious car crash this past year and has been in the hospital recovering since then to this day. She is a true fighter.
Who was the most improved member of the team during 2019-20?
Christian Matthews was our male diver who joined part way through the season, having little diving experience he did very well this season.
