Keller Earns Medalist Honors at George Mason Orlando Invitational

Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. - Junior Ken Keller earned medalist honors to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a fourth-place finish in the George Mason Orlando Invitational at Mission Inn Resort & Club on Tuesday.
Keller finished with a three-round total of 221 (72-74-75) to share medalist honors with Wright State's Tyler Goecke. The junior, who earned medalist honors for the first time in his career, was one of three Penguins who finished in the top 10 of the individual standings.
Keller becomes just the second Penguin since October 2015 to claim medalist honors. Kevin Scherr also earned medalist honors for YSU earlier this season at The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational. The performance marked Keller's first career top-five finish, and his third in the top 10.
Keller's even-par 72 in the first round on Monday featured 13 pars and three birdies while his second-round 74 featured seven pars and five birdies. Taking a two-shot lead into Tuesday's final round, he concluded with a 75 that included 12 pars and birdies at No. 1 and No. 6. Keller finished his round strong by playing his final eight holes at one under par.
As a team, the Penguins recorded a three-round total of 914 to finish in fourth place. YSU posted rounds of 304 and 307 over the first two rounds on Monday before finishing with a 303 in Tuesday's final session.
Playing as an individual, Cole Christman earned a career-best ninth-place finish with a three-round 227 (75-78-74). The freshman's two-over-par 74 on Tuesday featured 13 pars and two birdies. Zack Ford also fired a three-round 227 (78-76-73) to tie for ninth and match the best finish of his career. The junior's one-over-par 73 in the final session included 12 pars and three birdies.
Scherr tied for 18th with a three-round total of 230 (77-78-75). The junior's final-round 75 saw 11 pars and three birdies. Bryan Kordupel finished with a 236 (77-79-80) to tie for 35th while C.J. Hughes tied for 56th with a 247 (81-82-84).
Wright State took home the tournament title by carding a three-round total of 896. The Raiders finished 13 strokes ahead of runner-up Illinois Wesleyan. Oakland finished three strokes ahead of the Penguins in third place.
The Penguins are scheduled to continue their spring season March 22-24 with the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.
