Rochester, Mich. - Youngstown State junior Casey Prentice set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle to lead the Penguins on the second day of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Oakland Aquatic Center.
Prentice finished eighth in the finals with a time of 23.87 seconds. Earlier in the day she set the school record in the 50-yard freestyle. The previous mark was 23.72 seconds set by Jana Janson in February 2014! Other YSU times in the 50 Free included - Aubrey Whitaker (24.29), Hannah Olger (24.73), Shayanna Hollow (24.74), Tiphaine Saint-Gilles (25.22) Jamie Leming (25.41), Kat Keller (25.61).
Josie Preski finished 11th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.54 while Taylor Bishop is 12th with a 5:03.16 at the HL Championships. In the prelims, Taci Miller had a time of 5:10.11, Carsyn Seifert posted a time of 5:14.60.
Mallory Pitstick clocked a YSU best time of 2:10.44 in the 200 IM while Paris Krug posted a time of 2:10.62.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, YSU posted a time of 1:35.74.
The Horizon League Championships resume on Friday morning at 10:30. The Penguins will compete in the 100-yard Butterfly, 400-yard IM, 200-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Backstroke and the 400-yard Medley Relay throughout the day.
