Men's Basketball Falls to Northern Kentucky

Highland Heights, Ky. -- Junior Garrett Covington scored a team-high 17 points but the Youngstown State men's basketball team dropped an 88-63 decision to Northern Kentucky on Thursday evening at BB&T Arena.
The Penguins fall to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in the Horizon League while the Norse extended their winning streak to four games and improve to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.
NKU's Tyler Sharpe scored 33 points and made nine 3-pointers while Trevon Faulkner scored 22 points, Jalen Tate added 11 points and Bryson Langdon had 10 points.
The Penguins trailed 15-7 early on but scored seven straight points after a jumper by Olamide Pedersen, a 3-pointer by Devin Morgan and a layup by Naz Bohannon to get within one, 15-14, with 13:20 left in first half.
The Norse pushed their lead back to five, 21-16, before the Penguins scored seven of the next nine points to tie the game at 23-23. Baskets by Pedersen and Darius Quisenberry go the Penguins within one, and after an NKU basket, Morgan knotted the game at 23-23 with a 3-pointer at the 6:44 mark.
The Norse went on a 15-1 run over the next 3:15 to take a 14-point lead, 38-24. Northern Kentucky outscored the Penguins 25-6 over the final 6:44 of the half to go into the lockerroom with a 48-29 lead.
In the second half, the Norse led by as many as 27 points.
Youngstown State shot 33.3 percent from the field while the Norse connected on 50.8 percent from the floor.
The Penguins visit Wright State, Saturday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.
