
Men's and Women's Swimming To Compete at CSU Magnus Cup

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving teams finish off their fall semester schedule at the eighth annual Cleveland State Magnus Cup Invitational which will be held Friday through Sunday at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.
The Penguins will swim against men's and women's teams from Anderson, Cleveland State, University of the Cumberlands, Delaware, Fairmont State, Gannon, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, West Virginia Tech and Xavier. Additionally, women's programs from Akron, Bowling Green and California (Pa.) will be in action at the meet.
Swimming prelims will begin at 9 a.m. each day with swimming finals beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. The one and three-meter diving competition will be held in between swimming sessions on both Friday and Saturday and should begin by 1 p.m. both days. There will be a prelim round for diving, which is immediately followed by finals. The early heats of the 1,650 freestyle will be contested early afternoon Sunday while the top heat swims with finals.
The top 30 or 40 swimmers will advance into A, B, C (and D) finals for all individual events except the mile. However, only the top 20 will score in each event for both genders.
For the men, Brandon Choeng has the sixth-fastest time in the 100-yard breaststrokem, 13th-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke and 14th in the 200-yard IM. Wilson Cannon enters the meet with the 12th fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly.
For the women, seven swimmers are in the top 12 in various events. Aida Jurinovics is seeded seventh in the 500 freestyle while Aubrey Whitaker is 12th. Casey Prentice is eighth in the 50-yard freestyle while Whitaker is 13th. Jurinovics is ninth in the 400-yard IM while Prentice is 13th in the 100-yard butterfly. Whitaker is fourth in the 100-yard freestyle seventh in the 200-yard freestyle. Mallory Pitstick is 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke and Tiphaine Saint-Gilles is 11th. Saint-Gilles is 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke. Josie Preski seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle while Jurinovics is ninth and Taylor Bishop ranks 12th. Jurinovics also ranks third in the 200-yard butterfly.
