Late Run Lifts Louisiana Past Men's Basketball, 73-61

Lafaytette, La. -- Louisiana used a 12-2 run late in the second half to turn a one-point lead into 11-point advantage as the Ragin Cajuns defeated the Youngstown State men's basketball team, 73-61, on Friday night at the CajunDome.
With the loss the Penguins fall to 1-2 while the Ragin' Cajuns improve to 3-1 on the year.
Sophomore Darius Quisenberry was the only YSU player to reach double figures with 18 points, four assists and four rebounds.
Louisiana's Kobe Julien scored a career-high 23 points while Jalen Johnson had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Cedric Russell added 14 points.
The game featured 12 lead changes and eight ties, and the Penguins led for 17:48 compared to 17:15 for the Ragin Cajuns.
With 9:04 left, junior Naz Bohannon's offensive rebound and putback gave the Penguins a 50-49 lead, their last of the game, and senior Devin Morgan's fast-break layup got the Penguins within one, 53-52, with 6:22 left. Louisiana, though, scored the next eight points to boost its lead to 61-52, and, after a layup by Donel Cathcart III, the Ragin Cajuns extended their lead to 11 points, 65-54, with 1:34 to go.
In the first half, after Louisiana scored the first five points of the game, the Penguins used a 13-4 run to take a four-point lead, 13-9, at the 11:20 mark.
Louisiana recaptured the lead, 20-17, but a 3-pointer by Jelani Simmons, a driving layup by Quisenberry and a 3-pointer by Morgan put the Penguins up 25-20. The Penguins went into the lockerroom at halftime with a 29-26 lead.
For the game, the Penguins shot 34.3 percent from the field and connected on just 25.8 percent from 3-point range.
Youngstown State returns home to host North Carolina, Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
