Penguins Drop Finale at UIC; Will Be Third Seed

Chicago, Ill. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 dual to UIC on Sunday at the UIC Flames Outdoor Tennis Center. YSU finishes second in the league and will be the No. 3 seed at the HL Championships.
The Penguins finished the regular season 9-12 overall and 7-2 in Horizon League play. UIC finishes the regular season 13-7 and 7-2 in the Horizon League. Cleveland State is the top seed with UIC the second seed and YSU will be third when the conference championships begin on Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Flames won the doubles point claiming wins at No. 2 and No. 3. YSU won at No. 1 as Annina Brendel and Noelly Longi Nsimba won 6-4.
In singles play, YSU picked up points with wins by Nehel Sahni at No. 5 and Ana Stroe at No. 6. Sahni beat Rachel Le Comber 6-2, 6-1 while Stroe won 7-6, 6-4 against Bianca Zuzu at No. 6.
With UIC leading 3-2, the Guins needed to claim wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to win the match. Both of those matches were decided in three-set tiebreakers.
The Flames clinched the match with a win at No. 1 as Lackova dropped a hard-fought 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (4) contest to Jackie Altansarnai. At No. 3, Nsimba lost her match by a score 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) to Ann-Sophie Hahn.
YSU will face Oakland on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center at the University of Michigan.
