Penguins Pick Up 5-2 Victory At Detroit

Detroit, Mich. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory at Detroit on Saturday night at the Franklin Athletic Club. YSU had four singles wins and picked up the doubles point against the Titans.
The Penguins (5-10 overall and 3-0 in the Horizon League) have won 14 straight regular-season Horizon League matches and 19 consecutive league matches overall. Detroit falls to 3-6 and 2-1.
YSU won the doubles point winning matches at No. 2 and No. 3. Nehel Sahni and Noelly Nsimba won at No. 2 by a score of 6-3. at No. 3, Dominika Lackova and Julianna Heino won 6-4.
In singles play, Lackova, Annina Brendel, Sofia Macias and Sahni all recorded victories.
At No. 1, Lackova beat Anna Davydova by retirement. At No. 2, Brendel picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Valeryia Kulikovskay by a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 score. Macias earned a hard-fought three-set win at No. 4. Macias won the first set 6-3 over Nynke Van Der Goot before dropping the second 6-1. In the third set, Macias won a back-and-forth 16-14 set for the victory.
Sahni continued a strong spring run with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Viktoria Laskutova. It was her 12th win in 13 matches in dual play. She is now 8-0 at No. 5.
YSU returns to action on Sunday afternoon at Oakland. First serve for the match against the Golden Grizzlies is set for 3:30 p.m.
