Four Singles Wins Lift Penguins to Dual Win At Oakland

Bloomfield, Mich. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up four wins in singles play for a come-from-behind 4-3 dual win at Oakland on Sunday afternoon at the Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness Center.
With the win YSU improves to 6-10 overall and is now 4-0 in Horizon League play. Oakland falls to 8-7 and 1-3 with the loss. The Penguins have won 15 straight regular-season Horizon League matches and 20 consecutive league matches overall.
Oakland took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 forcing the Penguins to win four singles matches.
The first YSU winner was Nehel Sahni who defeated Sofia Borcuti by a 6-3, 6-1 score at No. 5. At No. 4, Sofia Macias was victorious defeating Daria Artamonova 6-2, 0-6, 6-3. Annine Brendel won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 over Elizabeth Guy.
Oakland won the next two completed singles matches as Julianna Heino dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 6 to Juliana Guevara and Tamara Blum bead Dominika Lackova 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1.
The decisive match was at No. 3 between Noelly Longi Nsimba and Karine Celis. Celis won the first set 7-5 before Nsimba picked up a 7-6 (5) win a second-set tiebreaker. In the third set, Nsimba cruised to a 6-1 win giving the match to the Guins.
The Penguins play a key league match at Cleveland State on Friday afternoon. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
