Scouting Report

  • Youngstown State concludes its two-game road trip in Wisconsin on Saturday as it plays at Milwaukee. Tipoff at the Klotsche Center is set for 3 p.m. Eastern, and the game will be broadcast live on 570 WKBN, iHeartRadio, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN App.
  • The Penguins are coming off a 69-35 loss at Green Bay on Thursday that dropped their record to 15-8 overall and 6-6 in Horizon League play. YSU is sixth in the conference standings and a game-and-a-half behind Milwaukee, which has a 7-4 league mark.
  • YSU led Green Bay 14-9 with three minutes left in the first period, but the Penguins went on a scoring drought of more than 10 minutes during a 20-point spurt by the Phoenix. Green Bay then scored the first 10 points of the third period and led by at least 20 for the final 18 minutes.
  • Youngstown State played shorthanded against the Phoenix as forwards Janae Jackson and Morgan Olson did not dress because of injuries and point guard Indiya Benjamin sat out the final 26 minutes with an injury.
  • YSU leads the Horizon League and ranks 10th in the country with 9.0 3-pointers per game, and the Penguins have made at least 200 3-pointers for the sixth straight season. YSU made eight 3s at Green Bay and has sank at least 10 in seven of their last 10 games.
  • Youngstown State started four underclassmen for the 12th straight game and for the 19th time in 23 games on Thursday at Green Bay.
  • Sarah Cash ranks fifth in the country and leads the Horizon League with a .633 field-goal percentage. She's averaging 16.5 points in conference play, which is the fifth-most in the league. Green Bay held her to a season-low four points on three field goal attempts on Thursday.
  • Nikki Arbanas has made 60 3-pointers this season, which is the most ever by a YSU sophomore and the 11th-most by a Penguin regardless of class. She is averaging a league-best 3.2 3-pointers during conference play. Arbanas has made at least three 3-pointers in seven straight games and in nine of her last 10 contests.
  • Kelsea Newman was in the starting lineup at Green Bay for the first time since YSU's game against Kent State on Dec. 12. Newman finished with six points and made at least two 3-pointers for the eighth time in her last nine games.

Previewing Milwaukee

A Win Would...

  • Give YSU at least 16 wins in its first 24 games for the 11th time in its history and for the third time in the last four years.
  • Likely secure a winning season for the third time in the last four years. YSU had 12 straight losing seasons heading into 2012-13.
  • Be YSU's eighth straight over Milwaukee and its fourth straight at the Klotsche Center.

On This Date

  • Youngstown State is 7-1 in eight previous games played on Feb. 13. The Penguins won their first seven games on the date before losing at Valparaiso in 2010.
  • YSU had 10 blocks, which is tied for the third-most in program history, in a 78-62 win over Cleveland State in 1991.
  • Kristi Echelberry made 11 consecutive free throws in an 11-for-12 effort from the line in a 71-56 victory over Eastern Illinois in 1993.

Scouting Milwaukee

  • Milwaukee 13-9 overall and 7-4 in conference play following a 59-58 overtime victory over Cleveland State on Thursday. The Panthers are third in the league standings and are in good position to finish in the top half for the first time since 2010-11. UWM was picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll.
  • Milwaukee has been strong defensively against league opponents, ranking second in the conference in both scoring defense (62.8 points per game) and field-goal percentage defense (.378).
  • Four UWM players are averaging between 10.2 points and 12.9 points. Sierra Ford-Washington is the top scorer, and she's shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc.

Series with Milwaukee

  • Milwaukee leads the all-time series with YSU 24-12, but the Penguins have won seven straight against the Panthers since the start of the 2012-13 season. UWM had won 15 consecutive games versus YSU before the Penguins' current streak.
  • Last Meeting: Kelsea Newman hit a step-back jumper from 18 feet at the buzzer to lift YSU to a 69-67 win over Milwaukee on Jan. 7. There were 15 lead chances and 11 ties in the game, and YSU battled back from a 20-5 first-period deficit. Nikki Arbanas carried the offense with seven 3-pointers on 10 attempts and added four free throws for a game-high 25 points.
