YSU Sits Ninth After One Day at KAT Klash

The Youngstown State bowling team earned a pair of wins and sits ninth in total pins against a challenging field at the first day of the Track Kat Klash. The tournament is being held at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas.
The Penguins earned wins over Texas Southern (924-890) and Louisiana Tech (939-878) in the third and fifth matches of the day, respectively. YSU's four losses each came against teams ranked in the top 12 in the country – No. 2 Stephen F. Austin, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 12 Delaware State.
YSU finished the day with 5,371 pins in six Baker matches for an average game of 179.0. The Penguins sit ahead of No. 24 Jackson State and No. 18 Tulane in the standings after the first of three days of competition.
No. 1 Nebraska leads the field with 6,134 pins, and it is followed in the top five by Arkansas State, No. 7 Central Missouri, Stephen F. Austin and No. 6 Sam Houston State.
The Penguins will bowl in five traditional team matches on Saturday before bracket play starts on Sunday. YSU will begin the day against Jackson State, which is 10th in total pins after one day, and the Penguins will also take on Sam Houston State, No. 22 Prairie View A&M and Tulane. YSU will have a bye in its second round of the day.
