Win Over Sam Houston State Highlights Saturday for Bowling

The Youngstown State bowling team earned three wins, including one over No. 6 Sam Houston State, in five traditional team matches on Saturday at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree. The tournament is being held at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, N.J.
The Penguins sit ninth in total pins for the weekend with 8,835. YSU averaged 897.2 in its five matches on Saturday, up from 869.8 on Friday. There will be one Baker game on Sunday to determine the final placings in the qualifying rounds for four-team brackets later in the day.
Youngstown State lost its first match of the day 878-858 to No. 16 Monmouth, but the Penguins rebounded for an 893-870 win over No. 6 Sam Houston State. YSU then beat Lincoln Memorial 916-716, and its best total of the day came in the fourth match, a 969-925 win over Franklin Pierce. The Penguins fell 935-852 to No. 13 LIU Brooklyn in the final match of the day.
Nikki Mendez was the top individual for the Penguins with three games over 200 and a total of 976. That was the 12th-highest total in the entire field. Alexis Grim posted a 911, which ranked 28th, and Rachel Darrow was 34th with 898. No other Penguin bowled more than three games.
