Penguins Cruise to 6-1 Win Over Cleveland State

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's team won its fifth straight match defeating Cleveland State 6-1 on Friday nigh at the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU won the doubles point and five singles matches.
The Penguins (11-8 overall and 4-0 in the Horizon League) took two of three matches from the Vikings (4-12, 2-2) and then was victorious in straight sets in the five singles matches won.
In doubles, YSU won at No. 3 as Sofia Macias Mendoza and Dominika Lackova earned a 6-2 win. CSU won at No. 1, but the Guins clinched at No. 2 as Annina Brendel and Nehel Sahni earned a 6-3 victory.
In singles play, Marta Burak won her 22nd straight conference match beating Ellen Folkers by a 6-2, 6-3 score at No. 1. Lackova remained unbeaten in her Horizon League career knocking off Victoria Bensimon by a 6-3, 6-3 tally at No. 2. Also playing a strong match was Brendel who won 6-3 and 6-3 over Mathilde Orange at No. 3.
Winning at No. 6 in straight sets was Mendoza who won 6-3, 7-6 and Sahni won in straight sets at No. 4 by a 7-6, 6-2 score.
Head Coach Mickael Sopel said he is pleased with the way the Penguins are coming together.
"We played a great match tonight," Sopel said. "I am very happy with the way we completed. We were really focused and played strong all the way through the match. It's a good match to build on as we move into the second half of our league season."
The Penguins return to action next Friday when they visit Milwaukee.
