Penguins Finish Third at Georgetown Hoya Invitational

Beallsville, Md. - The Youngstown State women's golf team had a strong final two rounds at the three-round Georgetown Hoya Invitational which concluded on Tuesday. The Penguins finished third in a strong 13-team field at the The Members Club at Four Streams.
The Penguins were in sixth place after the opening round on Monday with a 326 before regrouping and moving up to third after a solid 313 in round two. On Tuesday, the Guins followed up their second round with a 314.
Georgetown won the event with a 941 while Marshall was second at 949 and YSU claimed third at 953.
Leading the way was senior Aislynn Merling who tied for seventh with a 235. Merling had an 80 and a 75 on Monday before finishing up with an 80 on Tuesday. She was one shot out of sixth place and two back of fifth. Georgetown's Jacquelyn Eleey won the tournament with a 230.
Emily Dixon and Allison Mitzel tied for 14th carding scores of 240. Dixon had consistent rounds of 81, 79 and 80 for the tournament. Mitzel opened with an 87 before firing a second-round score of 79 for an eight-shot improvement on Monday. She closed well with a 74 on Tuesday, tying her for low-round honors of the event.
Courtney Shutt was two shots back of Mitzel and Dixon and was tied for 17th with a 242. Shutt had rounds of 82, 80 and 80 at the Four Streams Course.
As an individual, Mia Barchetti was 36th with a 252 (84-81-87) and Emily Rohanna finished 51st with a 258 (83-90-85).
YSU returns to action on April 5-6 at the IPFW Spring Classic.
