
Penguins Come Up Short in Loss to Akron

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Akron on Tuesday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center.
Marta Burak, who was named the Horizon League's Player of the Week on Tuesday, picked up the lone point for the Penguins with a victory at No. 1 singles. Burak beat Akron's Martina Zerbola by a 6-3, 6-3 score.
The dual started with the singles matches as the Zips (4-1) won five of six from the Penguins (2-3).
YSU hung tough at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, but Akron won all three matches in three sets. Annina Brendel won her second set, Sahni won her first set and Heino was victorious in her second set.
In doubles play, Heino and Victoria Ferry earned a 6-2 win, but Akron picked up a win at No. 2 and then earned the point with a victory at No. 1 doubles.
The Penguins return to the court on Friday when they play host to St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. YSU also entertains Saint Francis (Pa.) later that evening at 7 o'clock.
