Penguins Fall at Home to Green Bay

Horizon League regular-season champion Green Bay showed off its defensive prowess in holding the Youngstown State women's basketball team to 15 percent shooting in a 73-27 victory on Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Center.

The Penguins missed 22 of their final 23 shots in the first half as Green bay built a 40-11 advantage at halftime. YSU finished making just 6-of-40 from the field, including 2-of-25 from 3-point range. Youngstown State came into the contest shooting 43.1 percent overall and 36 percent from 3-point range.

Latisha Walker finished with 11 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes to lead the Penguins. YSU drops to 19-8 overall and 8-6 in Horizon League play.

Kaili Lukan had 14 points to lead four Phoenix players in double figures. Green Bay, which has already clinched the outright regular-season title, improved to 24-4 overall and 14-1 in league play.

YSU made two of its first three field goals to take a 4-3 lead less than a minute into the game. The Penguins' only other field goal came on a Heidi Schlegel 3-pointer with 12:12 remaining. By that time, Green Bay had built a 17-4 lead.

Youngstown State will play at Cleveland State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Penguins and Vikings are tied for third place in the Horizon League standings.
