Penguins Notch Five Top-Seven Finishes on Friday at HL Championships

Brown Deer, Wis. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team had five top-seven finishes on Friday at the Horizon League Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
Leading the way was Viktoria Orosz who was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 1:48.78. Orosz had set the mark of 1:50.01 back in November.
On Friday night, Orosz staterd out first taking the lead after the first 50 yards, but Oakland's Nikki Flynn grabbed the advantage during the second 50. Orosz kept pace the last 100 yards, but Flynn won the event with a time of 1:48.32.
Hannah Reynolds had a strong performance in the 100-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:04.71 to place sixth. Reynolds became just the second Penguin in school history to swim under 1:05 in the event. Her previous-best time was 1:06.55.
Senior Ashley Dow had strong swim in the 100-yard backstroke placing seventh with a time of 57.37 seconds.
In the three-meter diving, the Guins took the fifth and seventh spots. McKenzie Stelter was fifth with a score of 254.05 while Lydia Scheringer was seventh with a 226.0.
Jana Janson was 13th in the 100-yard butterfly with a career-best time of 57.38 seconds and Rachel Shipp was 16th with a time of 58.57 seconds in the final. In the 400-yard IM, Katrina Gerbrand had a season-best time of 4:52.89.
To end the night, the Guins broke the school record in the 800-yard freestyle by almost seven seconds with a time of 7:36.57 en route to a fifth-place finish in the event.
In the team standings, the Penguins sit in fifth place with 278 points, seven ahead of sixth-place Wright State. Oakland has a big lead for the team title with 582 points while Milwaukee is second with 428 and Green Bay third at 413. UIC is in fourth at 332.
The final day of the Horizon League Championships will feature the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relay.
