Orosz, Aranda Conclude Strong Showing at Horizon League Championships

Brown Deer, Wis. - Youngstown State freshmen Viktoria Orosz and Madison Aranda concluded a pair of strong individual performances with a third and fourth place finish on Saturday at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Orosz was third with a time of 2:00.68. Orosz started out strong owning the lead after the first 50 and 100 yards before Wright State's Kortney Mullen went in front at the 150 mark. Claire Friederick of Green Bay closed fast in the final 50 yards to win a close finish with a time of 2:00.34. In second was Kyra Rietveld of Oakland at 2:00.59 while Orosz was third and Mullen ended up in fourth .03 behind Orosz.
In the 1,650-yard freestyle Aranda was fourth with a time of 17:09.64. Newcomer of the Year, Brie Hines won the event with a time of 16:42.62. The next two placers were under 17 minutes while Aranda placed fourth with her time, just under two seconds ahead of the fifth place finisher. It was Aranda's best swim in the event by a second-and-a-half.
In the team standings, the Guins were sixth with 345 points. Oakland cruised to the title with 842 points while Milwaukee was second at 606.5. Green Bay was third at 573, UIC was fourth with 457 points and Wright State came in fifth at 363 points.
Also on Saturday, Ashley Dow was 12th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.94 and Rachel Shipp was 14th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.09.
The Penguins ended the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Orosz, Kolbrun Jonsdottir, Aranda and Jana Janson clocked a school-record time of 3:28.51. The previous mark was 3:30.48.
On the opening leg of the relay, Orosz broke the school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a first leg of 51.71 seconds. The previous mark had stood since March 1986 when Janet Kemper swam a time of 51.80 seconds.
