• The Penguins are coming off an 87-78 loss to ACC member Notre Dame on Dec. 21.

• Sophomore Sidney Umude posted the second double-double of his career with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

700 Club

• Head Coach Jerry Slocum has 704 career wins and became the 38th head coach in NCAA history to reach 700 wins.
• He ranks 37th with 704 career wins.

About Detroit

• Detroit opens Horizon League play with an overall mark of 6-5 and is coming off back-to-back losses to Western Kentucky (79-74) on Dec. 22 and Eastern Michigan (88-73) on Dec. 28.
• Paris Bass, who missed the first seven games, leads the Titans with 16.8 points per game.
• Chris Jenkins is averaging 14.3 and 7.1 rebounds per game while Anton Wilson and Josh McFolley and averaging 13.6 and 13.4 points per game, respectively.

 

The Detroit Series

• This is the 40th meeting between YSU and Detroit in a series that dates back to 1953.
• The Titans own a 30-9 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last four contests.
• Two of the last three games played in Detroit have gone into overtime.
• The Penguins last win at Calihan Hall was a 64-61 victory in 2011.
• Detroit won the last meeting in Calihan Hall, 77-67, in the first round of the 2015 Horizon League Tournament.

 

Umude Posts Double-Double

• Sophomore Sidney Umude posted the second double-double of his career against Notre Dame.
• He scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds .
• His previous one was against FGCU on Nov. 21.

 

A Win Would

• Give Youngstown State its 10th win over Detroit.
• Mark YSU's first over Detroit since 2014 and the first win in Detroit since 2011.
• Mark Jerry Slocum's 705th career win and his 124th at Youngstown State.
• Mark Jerry Slocum's eighth win over Detroit.
• Mark the 1,058th victory in program history.
• Give the Penguins a 6-8 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Horizon League.
• Mark YSU's second road win of the season.

 

Frosh Step Up Against Irish

• Freshmen Jordan Andrews and Latin Davis each had career scoring high against Notre Dame on Dec. 21.
• Andrew poured in 12 points and made a career-best four 3-pointers and had four rebounds.
• Davis tied a career high with 11 points and had three rebounds, two assists and a career-high four steals.
• Combined, the duo accounted for 23 of YSU's 27 bench points against the Fighting Irish.

 

To Catch a Thief

• Against Geneva, the Penguins recorded 28 steals as a team.
• It marked the second-highest single-game total in school history.
• The school record is 30 set in 1997.
• It was also just the fifth time in school history the Penguins tallied at least 20 steals in a game.

 

No Bench Warmers

• The Penguins have been getting outstanding production from their bench play after 13 games.
• YSU is averaging 26.4 points per game from its non-starters this season, including a season-high 50 against FGCU on Nov. 21.

 

Down Under Wonder

• Junior Matt Donlan has been one of the Penguins most consistent offensive performers thisseason.
• He turned in a career performance against Purdue on Dec. 12 and set a career high with 19 points and tied a career high with five 3-pointers.
• Donlan also dished out a career-best three assists against the Boilermaker.
• Over the last five games, Donlan is averaging 13.2 points per game, has made 14 3-pointers and is shooting 49 percent from the field and 56 percent from 3-point range 
• He also leads the team with 34 3-pointers and ranks sixth in the Horizon League with 2.6 3-pointers made per game.
• He also ranks eighth with a .442 3-point percentage.
• Donlan has also scored in double figures in nine of 13 games.
