Freshmen Strong Again in Dual With Akron

Youngstown State freshman Viktoria Orosz won two individual events and was part of a winning relay as the Penguins hosted the Akron Zips on Friday evening at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Orosz took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.75) by five seconds, and she won the 500 free (5:07.18) by more than 11 seconds. The freshman also teamed up with Jana Janson, Chelsea Malone and Kolbrun Jonsdottir to win the 200 free relay after Akron's top group was disqualified.
The Zips won the dual 197-102.
Fellow freshman Madison Aranda also won two individual events. Her time of 2:07.27 was six seconds better than the next closest swimmer in the 200 fly, and she finished the 1,650 free in 17:29.73 to win by 11 seconds.
Jonsdottir, another freshman, earned second places in the 200 free and the 200 breast, Orosz was second in the 200 back, and Hannah Reynolds was the runner-up in the 100 breast. Earning third-place finishes were Ashley Dow in the 200 IM, Janson in the 50 free, Bethany Glick in 1-meter diving and Lydia Scheringer in 3-meter diving.
YSU will compete in a pair of Horizon League duals next weekend. The Penguins will swim at UIC on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
