
Penguins, Merling Finish Fourth at Oakland Invitational

Rochester, Mich. - The Youngstown State women's golf team finished fourth out of seven teams at the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Invitational which concluded on Sunday at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course.
Aislynn Merling led the way for the Penguins with a fourth-place individual finish. Merling had a 74 on Sunday after opening the tournament with an 80 on Saturday. Her total of 154 was five shots back of Oakland's Elle Nichols who won the event by one shot of Ohio's Angela Codian. Merling moved up from 11th after her opening round.
The Bobcats claimed the team title with a 618 (315-303), Oakland was second at 624, Bowling Green third at 626 and the Guins finished fourth at 633 with rounds of 325 and 308. The 308 on Sunday tied for the third-lowest score of the tournament. The Guins finished ahead of Detroit, Central Michigan and another squad from Bowling Green.
Emily Dixon also carded a 74 on Sunday and finished with a 157 after an opening 83 on Saturday. Dixon was in 18th place after round one, but finished the tournament 11th.
The rounds of 74 by Merling and Dixon were the second-lowest scores of the event.
Emily Rohanna finished in 16th place with 160 (80-80), Mia Barchetti was 19th with a 162 (82-80) and Allison Mitzel was 32nd with a 171 (88-83). Courney Shutt finished 32nd with a 171 (85-86) competing as an individual.
The Penguins conclude their fall slate on Oct. 6-7 at the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis.
