Penguins Take Top-Four Spots In Victory at Clarion Fall Invitational

Clarion, Pa. - The Youngstown State women's golf team had the top four finishers and cruised to a 30-shot victory at the two-day Clarion Fall Invitational which concluded on Monday at the Clarion Oaks Golf Course.
YSU won the event with a two-round total of 628. On Sunday, the Guins carded a 310 and built a 19-stroke lead over West Chester. On Monday, the Penguins fired a 318 on a chilly morning, the lowest score by 10 shots. Kutztown finished second with a two-round score of 658 while West Chester placed third.
It was the second tournament title of the fall for the Penguins. YSU won the season-opening Roseann Schwartz Invitational earlier this month.
Leading the way was Allison Mitzel who took home medalist honors with a two-round score of 153. Mitzel led after yesterday's opening round by one shot following a 76. On Tuesday, she had a 77 to win the event by three shots.
A pair of Penguins tied for second as both Emily Dixon and Aislynn Merling tied with a 156. Dixon had a pair of 78's while Merling posted rounds of 77 and 79 for the tournament. In fourth place was Emily Rohanna with a 160 after carding two scores of 80.
Mia Barchetti placed sixth with a 163 (79-84), Courtney Shutt finished ninth with a 165 (80-85) and Haliegh Guerrero was 29th with a 176 (87-89).
The Penguins are back in action later this week when they participate in the Golden Grizzly Invitational hosted by Oakland in Rochester, Mich.
