Penguins Card Record Round; Hold Off CSU For Tournament Win

Vienna, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's golf team carded a school-record low round of 300 on Tuesday during the second round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational to win the tournament. YSU defeated Cleveland State by four shots.
The Guins posted a two-round score of 606 to hold off a charge by Cleveland State, which was just four shots off the pace. YSU led the Vikings and Dayton by eight shots after Monday's opening round before CSU carded a 296 on Tuesday. Dayton was third with a 633 while Malone was fourth at 723.
YSU's previous-best school performances were 303's at the Red Flash Invitational in 2014 and the Horizon League Championships in 2013.
Penguin Emily Dixon won the event by two shots over CSU's Colleen Miller by carding a two-round 147. Dixon had a final round 75 on Tuesday to follow up her first round of 72 on Monday.
Allison Mitzel finished fourth with a 151 following a final round 76. Aislynn Merling rebounded with a round of 73 and moved from 15th to seventh on the final leaderboard with a 155.
Freshman Courtney Shutt had an impressive YSU debut tying with Merling and and Dayton's Jenna DiPaolo for seventh place. Shutt carded a 76 on Tuesday and posted a 155 for the tournament. Sophomore Mia Barchetti had a pair of 80s and finished 12th with a 160 for the event.
YSU had four golfers compete as individuals as Emily Rohanna was 14th with a 163 (78-85), Haleigh Guerrero was 18th with a 165 (80-85), Sana Khan was 21st with a 168 (86-82) and Brittany Schneider placed 26th with a 189.
The Penguins will go for their second title of the year on Sept. 6-7 at the Bucknell Invitational.
