Eastern Michigan Sweeps YSU at Michigan Invitational

Eastern Michigan got 17 kills from junior Stacey Perinar and 10 team blocks to sweep the Youngstown State volleyball team 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 on Friday evening at the Michigan Invitational.
YSU's Aly Ryan had 10 kills on 22 attempts for a .455 attack percentage, and Shannon Watson had nine kills on a .217 clip. Eastern Michigan did not allow another Penguin to hit better than .125, and Youngstown State had a season-low .086 attack percentage as a team. Nikki Thompson led the defense with 18 digs.
"We were really out of sync to start the match, and we got off to a really slow start in all three sets," YSU head coach Mark Hardaway said. "Eastern Michigan is very aggressive, and once they got ahead, it was very difficult to catch up. We didn't have our best performance tonight, and we'll have to rebound quickly for tomorrow's match against a very good Kansas State team."
YSU scored the first three points of the match, but Eastern Michigan went on an 11-2 run to go up 11-5. The Penguins trailed by at least five the rest of the set. The Eagles then opened up a 6-2 lead in the second set and stayed ahead for the duration. Eastern Michigan led from start to finish in the third set.
Youngstown State will conclude non-conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Kansas State.
