Dow Finishes Second in 100-Yard Backstroke at HL Meet

Cleveland, Ohio - Youngstown State junior Ashley Dow was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.12 seconds at the Horizon League Championships on Friday night at the Busby Natatorium.
Dow was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.12 seconds finishing behind Oakland's Karin Tomeckova who tied Dow's HL record time of 54.40 seconds.
The Penguins had other strong performances throughout the evening.
Sophomore Jana Janson finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with a school-record time of 56.64 seconds while senior Laura Paz was 10th at 57.71 seconds. Janson eclipsed the mark set by Ashley Williamson in 2009.
Senior Megan Ciampa placed 13th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:35.26. Freshman Hannah Reynolds placed 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.85.
Sophomore Stef van Niekerk was 15th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.15 while freshman Taylor Teske 15th in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.27.
To conclude the night in the 800-yard freestyle, YSU had a time of 7:44.01 to finish sixth in the event. The group of Therese Stevens, Ciampa, van Niekerk and Dow bettered the school mark of 7:45.29 set in 2011.
In the team race, YSU has 198 points and sits in sixth place. Oakland holds a narrow 524-516 lead over Milwaukee.
The final day of action starts at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
