Game Preview
• After a week off for finals, the Youngstown State men's basketball team returns to action against SEC-member Texas A&M, Saturday, Dec. 13, in College Station, Texas.
• Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. ET and can be heard on 570 AM WKBN and viewed on the SECNetwork+ and the WatchESPN App.
About Texas A&M
• Texas A&M is 6-2 overall and is coming off a 77-63 loss to Baylor on Dec. 9.
• Prior to the Baylor loss, the Aggies had won five straight, including a 72-71 win over Arizona State.
• Leading the Aggies is Jalen Jones with 11.8 points per game.
• Danuel House is also averaging in double figures with 11.0 points per game.
The Texas A&M Series
• This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Texas A&M.
• This is also the second time in the last three seasons YSU has faced an SEC opponent.
• The Penguins defeated Georgia, 68-56, in 2012 in their last contest against an SEC foe.
Last Time Out
• The Penguins are coming off their their third straight victory and sixth in the last seven games after a 70-45 win over Thiel on Dec. 7.
• Sophomore Marcus Keene led the Penguins with 21 points and a career-high six rebounds with four 3-pointers. Keene made at least four 3's in the last six games.
• Bobby Hain scored 15 points with five rebounds.
• Freshman Sidney Umude scored a career-high 10 points.
Hain Named Horizon League POW
• Junior Bobby Hain was named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Dec. 8.
• Hain led the Penguins to a 3-0 week and averaged 18.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting 60.6 percent from the field.
• Hain scored a career-high 24 points with a Horizon League-best 14 rebounds in the win at Robert Morris on Dec. 2.
• He followed that up with a 16-point, 12-rebound performance at South Dakota in an 87-79 win.
• He is tied for the league lead with four double-doubles this season.
Slocum In Elite Company
• Youngstown State Head Coach Jerry Slocum ranks among the best in the history of college basketball in terms of overall wins.
• Slocum ranks 37th all-time with 695 career victories eighth among active Division I coaches in all-time wins.
• He is just five wins away from 700 for his career.
• Slocum is also just one of two NCAA Division I head coaches that are in their 40th year as a head coach. The other is Duke's Mike Krzyzewski.
Games Coached
• As of Dec. 8, Youngstown State Head Coach Jerry Slocum ranks third among active NCAA Division I coaches in games coached.
• Slocum, who has coached in 1,192 career games, is behind Duke's Mike Krzyzewski with 1,297 and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim with 1,276.
• Slocum will coach his 1,200th career game against Green Bay on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Keene Leads Nation, Horizon League
• With his 39 3-pointers made, sophomore Marcus Keene leads the nation in that category.
• He also ranks 14th nationally and leads the Horizon League with 3.5 3-pointers made per game.
• Keene also leads the Horizon League in scoring at 18.8 points per game.
Amiker Doubling Up
• Senior Shawn Amiker is off to great start for the Penguins this season.
• Amiker is averaging 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
• He also has three double-doubles and ranks fourth in the Horizon League in rebounding.
• Over the last seven games, Amiker is averaging 13.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game and shooting 54.2 percent (39-of-72) from the field.
45 and Above
• Youngstown State has a great chance of winning when it make 45 percent of its field-goal attempts.
• The Penguins are 5-0 when they shooting at least 45 percent from the field.
Hain Double the Trouble
• Junior Bobby Hain posted his fourth double-double of the season and the 13th of his career with a 16 points and 12 rebounds against South Dakota on Dec. 5.
• Hain's four double-doubles are tied for the Horizon League lead.
• Hain's 14 boards against Robert Morris on Dec. 2 are a Horizon League high and his 24 points against the Colonials marked his third 20-point performance of the year.
Keene Heating Up
• Sophomore Marcus Keene has been becoming Youngstown State's go-to player recently.
• Keene scored a career-high 29 points with five 3-pointers against Illinois State on Nov. 29.
• Keene hit the game-winning 3-pointer against UMKC on Nov. 26 and has scored at least 20 points in four of the last six games.
• Keene scored 21 against UMKC on Nov. 26, 28 against UNCG on Nov. 23 and 24 against Central Michigan on Nov. 18.
• Over the last nine games, Keene is averaging 20.9 points per game and has made 36 3-pointers.
• Keene has also made at least four 3-pointers in the last six contests and has made a 28 during that span for an average of 4.7 3-pointers made per game.
Guins Winners of 6-of-7
• With their win over Thiel on Dec. 7, the Penguins won for the sixth time in the last seven contests.
• In those games, the Penguins are shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from 3-point range.
• Marcus Keene averaged 21.7 points per game and shot 59.2 percent (29-of-49) from 3-point range in those games.
Mr. 300
• With 12 assists against Longwood on Nov. 22, senior DJ Cole became the eighth player in school history to record at least 300 assists.
• Cole ranks sixth all-time with 331 assists.
• Cole also ranks fourth in career assists in YSU's Division I era.
Guins Hit Season High in 3's
• The Penguins made a season-high 10 3-pointers in the 89-81 win over Robert Morris on Dec. 2.
• Over the last seven games, the Penguins have made 51 3-pointers for an average of 7.3 3-pointers made per game.
