Orosz, Aranda Lead Penguins at Magnus Invitational

Freshman sensation Viktoria Orosz picked up wins in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard free to lead the Penguins at the three-day Magnus Invitational which concluded on Sunday at the Busbey Natatorium.
In the team standings, YSU placed sixth out of 10 teams with 576.5 points ahead of Ashland, Saint Francis (Pa.), Saginaw Valley State and Notre Dame (Ohio). Duquesne won the event with 1,415.5 points while Akron was second and Xavier third.
Orosz won the 500-yard freestyle on Friday with a time of 4:54.63. The time was four seconds faster than her school record and set a new meet record. Orosz took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with another school-record time of 1:50.01 on Saturday. On Sunday, she placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:56.03, smashing Olivia Arnold's school record by almost 15 seconds.
Orosz placed fourth in the 200-yard IM with a school-record time of 2:06.03 and was also sixth in the 100 free with a time of 52.74 seconds.
Freshman Madison Aranda also had a strong meet. She finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.91. Aranda placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.78 seconds. Aranda was fifth with a time of 17:12.76 in the 1,650 free, was sixth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.62 and she finished seventh in the 400 yard IM with a school-record time of 4:32.79.
Ashley Dow was ninth at 57.95 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. She was 10th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.95
Hannah Reynolds was 12th in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.85 seconds and was 13th in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:06.55.
In the 800 freestyle relay the Guins were fourth with a school-record time of 7:43.33. In the 400-yard medley relay the Penguins came in fifth at 3:54.53. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, YSU was sixth with a time of 1:37.82. In the 200-yard medley relay, the Guins were seventh with a time of 1:47.67.
The Penguins return to competition in January when they take on Akron.
