Men's Basketball Takes on Longwood For First Time

The Youngstown State men's basketball team (1-3) continues its rugged road trip at the Eastern Michigan Showcase with a matchup against Longwood, Saturday, Nov. 22, at 4:30 p.m. at the EMU Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich. The game can be heard on The Sports Animal 1390 WNIO.
- The Penguins are coming off a 71-62 loss to Eastern Michigan on Nov. 21. Junior Bobby Hain led four players scoring in double figures with 15 points. Sophomore Jalon Plummer scored a career-high 13 points while sophomore Marcus Keene had 12 points and eight assists and senior Shawn Amiker had 10 points.
- This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Longwood.
- Longwood is currently 2-1 and is coming off an 81-79 overtime win over UNC-Greensboro on Nov. 21. Darrion Allen scored a career-high 22 points while Lotanna Nwogbo had 18 points.
Slocum Among Elite
- Youngstown State Head Coach Jerry Slocum ranks among the best in the history of college basketball in terms of overall wins.
- Slocum ranks 37th all-time with 689 career victories and eighth among active Division I coaches in all-time wins.
Plummer Nets Career High
- Sophomore Jalon Plummer scored a career-high 13 points in the loss against Eastern Michigan.
- Plummer, who made two 3-pointers, also grabbed three rebounds and had two assists. His previous career high was 11 points against Westminster last season.
Keene Just Misses Double-Double
- Coming off a career-high 24 points against Central Michigan on Nov. 18, sophomore Marcus Keene nearly posted his first career double-double.
- Keene scored 12 points and dished out a season-high eight assists against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 21.
- Over the last three games, Keene has made nine 3-pointers.
Hain Off to Great Start
- Junior Bobby Hain is picking up where he left off last season.
- Hain leads the team with 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with a .537 field-goal percentage.
- Hain has scored at least 15 points in three of the four games this season, including a career-high 20 against Oberlin on Nov. 16.
DJ The Distributor
- Senior point guard DJ Cole continues to impress with his ball distribution.
- Cole 5.3 assists per game and has 21 assists in just four games.
- He had five assists against Central Michigan (11/18) and a season-high nine against Oberlin (11/16).
- For his career, Cole has 289 career assists and now ranks eighth on the Youngstown State career assists chart.
- He needs 11 more to become just the eighth YSU player to reach 300 career assists and 16 more to move into seventh place.
