
Penguins Open Slate at Tom Stubbs Relays

The Youngstown State swimmers started their season at the Tom Stubbs Relays hosted by Bowling Green at the Cooper Pool on Friday night.
The Penguins competed in 11 relay events against Bowling Green, Toledo, Akron and Findlay.
In the 3x100-yard backstroke relay, Ashley Dow, Viktoria Orosz and Chelsea Malone had a strong third-place finish with a time of 2:57.92. That time was three seconds faster than the previous-best YSU best mark at the event.
In the 3x100-yard butterfly relay, YSU had a strong fifth-place finish with a time of 3:01.38, a school-record in the event. The group of Madison Aranda, Jana Janson and Rachel Shipp posted the 300-yard time for the Penguins. It was the collegiate debut for Aranda and Shipp.
YSU had a fourth-place finish in the conventional 800-yard freestyle relay. The group of Orosz, Aranda, Stef van Niekerk and Kolbrun Jonsdottir posted a time of 7:53.66 which was almost a 10-second improvement from its previous best mark.
In the 400-yard medley relay, YSU was fourth with a time of 4:04.98. In the 200-yard freesyle relay the Penguins group of Malone, Jonsdottir, van Niekerk and Janson swam a fourth-place time of 1:40.12.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Guins were again fourth with a time of 3:36.43 as Janson, Aranda, Jonsdottir and Orosz same a strong race.
The Guins were sixth in the 3x100-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 3:34.71 as Jonsdottir, Hannah Reynolds and Shipp swam in the event.
YSU opens its dual slate on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Niagara at 11 a.m.
