
Paz, Dow Win Events to Pace Penguins at Butler Invitational

Fishers, Ind. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team had a strong showing at the five-team Butler Invitational on Sunday. Ashley Dow and Laura Paz won events for the Guins, who finished third.
The Penguins had 578 points and were just behind Xavier in the team race (584.5) to place third. Illinois State won the scoring 955.5 points. Butler was fourth and Evansville placed fifth.
Dow won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.61 seconds as Taylor Teske placed fifth at 1:01.25. Dow also won the 200-yard backstroke posting a time of 2:07.88 in the event.
Paz won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.56. In the 100-yard butterfly, she was second behind Illinois State's Lexi Nash with a time of 58.16 seconds.
The Penguins were second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.44 to start the meet. To finish the meet, YSU was second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:38.64.
Hanna Martin was ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:59.60 while Kim Kurtz was 10th clocking in at 19:05.76.
Megan Ciampa placed third in the 200-yard freestyle posting a time of 1:58.08 while Therese Stevens was fifth at 1:59.13. In the 500-yard freestyle, Ciampa was third clocking in at 5:17.85 and Stevens was right behind in fourth at 5:24.09.
Ciampa was also fifth clocking in at 4:50.32 in the 400-yard IM.
Hannah Reynolds finished the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.71 to finish fourth. She was also fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.28.
Jana Janson finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.22 seconds. She was sixth in the 100-yard freestyle posting a time of 54.54 seconds.
In the diving events, Megan Siford was fourth with a score of 209.40 while Bailey Dipman was fifth at 202.80. Lydia Scheringer placed second in the three-meter event with a score of 214.35 while Dipman was third at 205.90.
YSU plays host to UIC next Friday at the Beeghly Natatorium. The meet is Senior Day for the Penguins and will start at 5:30 p.m.
