The Youngstown State swimming and diving team won a final relay after Ashley Dow won the 200 IM by .01 seconds in a thrilling 150-148 dual meet win over UIC on Friday night at the Beeghly Center Natatorium.
It was the first dual win for the Penguins over the Flames.
The Penguins had an advantage most of the night before UIC eventually took the lead. Dow, who won the 100 and 200 backstroke events earlier in the meet, had an advantage midway through the 200 IM over UIC's Kelsey Millin. Millin kept things close up until the final stroke, but Dow just touched the wall ahead of her to win the event with a time of 2:12.07 to 2:12.08.
Needing a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Jana Janson, Chelsea Malone and Therese Stevens kept the race close before Stef van Niekerk was able to pull ahead and the group posted a time of 1:39.13 to earn the win in the race and take the dual.
The Guins started the meet off strong winning the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:59.66.
Megan Ciampa provided the first individual win of her senior night with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:55.21.
In the 200-yard freestyle, van Niekerk was second in the event with a 1:57.14 while Therese Stevens was third at 1:57.97.

Laura Paz had a pair of second-place finishes in the butterfly events. Paz clocked a time of 2:10.56 in the 200 butterfly and posted a time of 58.69 seconds in the 100 fly.
Janson had a career-best time of 24.63 seconds to take first in the 50-yard freestyle. Malone was third at 25.05 seconds. Janson was second in the 100 freestyle at 54.10 seconds.
