Bowling Green's Strong Block Results in 3-0 Loss by YSU

Bowling Green blocked 11 Youngstown State attacks and posted a team attack percentage of .288 to defeat the Penguins volleyball team in three sets on Tuesday evening at the Stroh Center.
Kaitlyn Skinner had six blocks, and Kelsey Bates and Jelena Sunjic had five apiece. The Falcons had five blocks in the final set, including one on match point. Bowling Green took the first two sets 25-13, 25-16 before winning the final one 29-27.
The result spoiled YSU head coach Mark Hardaway's return to Bowling Green. He was an assistant for the previous eight seasons and 10 years total at BGSU before becoming YSU's head coach in 2012.
Missy Hundelt had nine kills and 10 digs, and Aly Ryan had seven kills without an error in 17 attempts. Nichele Johnson had four kills in eight attempts in the third set.
Bowling Green got off to good starts and led from start to finish in each of the first two sets, but the Penguins battled back and were much more competitive in the third set.
There were 13 ties and two lead changes in that third set, and the only time the Falcons led by more than one was the final margin. Youngstown State took the lead at 4-3 and did not trail again until 22-21. YSU did not have the upper hand again but tied the score six times before the end of the match. The Penguins fought off four match points before Bates and Erica Fullenkamp combined to block Hundelt to end the match.
Youngstown State will play Akron and Saint Francis U on Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m. in Loretto, Pa.
