
Stafford Places Third in Three Meter at HL Championships

Chicago, Ill. - Youngstown State freshman Bec Stafford placed third in the three-meter dive at the Horizon League Championships on Wednesday night at the Flames Natatorium.
In three-meter diving, Stafford was third in the three-meter with a 286.25. Senior Casey Hill, the 2011 HL champion in the event, was fifth at 268.50 points. Stafford had the second-best score after the preliminaries while Hill was fourth.
Freshman Hanna Martin posted a personal-best by 19 seconds to finish 18th in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:48.01. That time ranks as the eighth best in YSU history. Other swimmers in the 1,000 for YSU included Megan Ciampa who clocked a 10:51.87, Kim Kurtz had a 11:04.34 while Elle Stevens finished with a 11:28.94.
To open the night, the 200-yard freestyle relay placed sixth with a time of 1:37.03, which ranks third fastest in school history. Jana Janson had a split of 24.30 to lead off, Chelsea Malone followed at 24.18, Therese Stevens clocked a 24.76 and Soyriah Davis anchored a 23.79.
To conclude the evening, the Guins were fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.72. That time was just .19 seconds off the school record. Ashley Dow opened with a 25.83 in the backstroke, Samanatha Roberts clocked a 28.91 in the breaststroke, Laura Paz had a 26.15 in the butterfly and Janson finished the relay with a 23.83 in the freestyle.
In the team standings, Cleveland State leads with 134 points while Green Bay is second at 125. The Penguins sit sixth with 84 points.
Day two of the championships is set for Thursday.
